POP International Galleries Opens New Location in Midtown
New York, NY (January 8, 2013) – POP International Galleries is proud to announce the opening of a pop-up location at The Atrium at 153 East 53rd Street, an incredible milestone for the POP brand. Located on the lower level of the former iconic Citicorp Building, POPup brings an exciting, colorful new look to the atrium enticing all those walking by. Art will not be the only thing inspiring visitors. POPup will donate a portion of proceeds made at this location to the Creative Arts Workshops for Kids (CAW).
POP International Galleries’ pledge to CAW follows their core philosophy of continued involvement in society at large, by participating in, supporting and sponsoring, meaningful community and charitable events. This is the mission for which they are known and have continued to build the POP brand on. POP’s vision goes hand in hand with the Creative Arts Workshops for Kids to empower youth to improve their leadership and creative problem-solving skills, as well as build self-confidence and other tools for positive self-expression, while deepening the relationship between themselves, art and community to create positive change in their lives through the arts.
“I am grateful to Boston Properties for their cooperation in helping to bring this project together and we hope that by POP International building this new gallery in this incredible location, we will have a truly positive impact on the many thousands of people working and passing through the Atrium daily, and the children of CAW,” said Jeff Jaffe, Owner, POP International Galleries.
The POPup presence will be felt throughout the building with key art pieces hanging in the major hallways and entryways. The art will bring life to otherwise overlooked areas impacting and inspiring those in the building. This space will act as a satellite location to the main downtown gallery housing many of the same artists and their works while maintaining POP’s distinctive, intimate feel.
February 1st will act as the official kickoff for POPup where Black History Month will be celebrated with an event later in the month featuring artist Benny Gool and his breathtaking images of Nelson Mandela. Throughout the year, there will be events hosted at the new location including a tribute to Rock & Roll; live performances by critically acclaimed street artists, and POP Residents, UR New York; and an animation exhibition inspired by some of the greatest animators in history.
