Artists and Basketball Legends Celebrate “The Art of Basketball”
All-Star Game Backboards and Floorboards
Transformed into High Impact Art at POP International Galleries
New York, NY (October 9, 2012) – Straight off the court of the 2011 NBA All Star game, the floorboards and backboards have been transformed into works of high impact art that will be on display during “The Art of Basketball” exhibit hosted by POP International Galleries on October 16th, 2012. A variety of artists collaborated on this event, with artwork depicting basketball superstars such as Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard. The exhibit will also include sculptural floorboard cutouts, with all artwork under license from the NBA.
The evening will be sponsored by BACARDI and Grey Goose as well as supported by the National Basketball Association and attended by a handful of basketball legends. The event will include eye catching pieces by Pop International Galleries’ resident artist UR New York, Billi Kid, My. Brainwash, Chris Stain, CERN, Skewville, Joe Iurato, The Dude Co., Rene Gagnon, Shiro, Ewak One 5MPH, David Cooper, Cope2, Jack Aguirre, and Bill Fickett.
“Celebrating dynamic work like The Art of Basketball from some of today’s hottest POP and street artists is exactly why I started this gallery. It’s impactful, engaging and unique to POP art’s current trend. Showcasing content like today’s most prolific hoops stars is what it is all about,” said Jeff Jaffe, owner, POP International Galleries. “You can feel the energy of the 2011 All-Star Game just looking at these pieces.”
The collection featuring unique canvases was put together by the Public Works Department who tapped a select group of leading graffiti and street artists to re-imagine the most iconic symbols of the game. The Art of Basketball takes the ball off the court, showing it is more than just a sport it is an art form.
