See the World through His Lens:
Arno Elias’ Photographic Journey Debuts at POP International Galleries!
Reception for the Artist Thursday, May 15th, 7 to 9pm
New York, NY (April 22, 2014) - From Sari-clad women on the streets of India, to a pair of mating lions on Africa's Savannah, to a panoramic perspective of New York City's skyline, Arno Elias' images conjure emotion and capture unforgettable moments from his photographic journey across the world.
On Thursday, May 15th, 2014 Pop International Galleries, SoHo will unveil Elias' most recent contributions and additions to his extensive body of work; a series of incredible photographs and hand-embellished photographs highlighting the diversities of our world. The artworks presented have been captured during the artists' recent sojourns through Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Egypt, India, Myanmar, Laos, Tibet, among others.
Elias, mostly known for his successful work as a composer, producer and musician for the Buddha Bar, did not stop his creative talents at his prodigious musical career. He continued on with his artistic abilities, leading him into the world of painting and now photography. Through his photography, he is able to focus on the simplicity and purity of the lives of Indigenous Peoples who are connected to the environment and depend upon its natural resources for survival. The relationships and connections Arno is able to realize in photographing people and moments in time, has imbued his spirit with a quest for humanitarianism and awakened his senses to the power and beauty of the world’s diverse cultures. He is involved with, among other organizations, UNICEF and the Brigitte Bardot Foundation which focuses on animal rights.
Using his layered photography as a foundation, Elias creates an elaborate story through the use of various textures and colors.
His individual hand-embellishments enhance the original image and elevate the visual experience for all viewers. Elias has developed a personal and symbolic graffiti language with elements of Sanskrit, other Asian characters, and mathematical codes that appear everywhere in his work. Through his various applications and embellishments, Elias creates each individual photograph of the same series, as its own unique mixed-media photographic painting.
Jeff Jaffe, owner of POP International Galleries, says: “Arno shares something with us that very few artists are able to do. He brings us stunningly beautiful aspects of our world in a poignant and sensitive manner that elevates and honors Indigenous Peoples, the creatures of the natural world and ourselves as a part of a global picture in an exquisitely approachable and thought-provoking way.”
Coinciding with Elias' solo exhibition at Pop International Galleries, the artist was recently commissioned by the St. Regis Hotel in New York to create two unique works of art for the hotel's permanent collection. One of which, a mixed media photographic painting of the founder John Jacob Astor IV, will be prominently featured in the lobby of the prestigious hotel.
The opening reception of the exhibition will be held on Thursday, May 15th from 7 – 9pm with Arno Elias and special guests in attendance.
