September 18th, 2008: ART FROM THE HEART - New Works By Mackenzie Thorpe
Finally, the much awaited and anticipated One-Person show for MACKENZIE THORPE.
This remarkable British artist continues to capture our attention and fascination with bold imagery that pushes the limits of our understanding of the human experience.
Mackenzie Thorpe strives to express the full range of human emotion through his art, whether through his trademark brightly colored pastels or his new bronze sculptures. His seemingly simple subject matter, from big headed happy children and square sheep, to tough industrial workers, belies the complexity of his concerns as an artist.
His works are associated with a principle of "art from the heart" - combining tenderness with fervency through both his abstract and figurative depictions. His work is wide ranging, from those accessible "square sheep" and duffle coat boys to the more challenging imagery, focusing on isolation and man's universal struggles. Much of Thorpe's work depicts his childhood growing up in Middlesbrough, yet he is well-known and beloved around the globe.
