Rare Nelson Mandela Images Kick Off The Celebration Of Black History Month
POP Midtown's First Show Capturing True Inspiration and Empowerment

New York, NY (January 22, 2013) --- On Wednesday, February 13th, POPup, POP International Galleries’ satellite location in “The Atrium” at 153 East 53rd Street (the former Citicorp Building), will kick off the celebration of Black History Month with a rare and captivating show titled “MADIBA – Images of Nelson Mandela”, featuring the work of famed South African photojournalist, Benny Gool. Benny Gool was honored with the opportunity to chronicle the life of Nelson Mandela in public and private, over three momentous decades. His images come together to narrate the uniquely inspirational story of one of history’s most respected and compelling icons.

These poignant images take you on one man’s journey from incarceration to becoming a beloved and inspiring world leader, with a great sense of empowerment beaming from each compelling photograph. The collection features other larger than life figures with Nelson Mandela, including Princess Diana and Michael Jackson. POPup is excited to announce that Benny Gool will be making an appearance on the show’s opening night, a great honor for the gallery.

“We are excited to not only put together a truly inspiring show, but to host the man behind it all. Benny Gool, adds greatly to the impact of this momentous event,” said Jeff Jaffe, owner of POP International Galleries. “This is another incredible milestone for the POP brand.”

This will be the first show for POPup since officially opening its doors on January 10, 2013. These captivating images are sure to resonate with viewers and collectors of all ages, leaving them to wonder what great show will be next at POPup. The show’s message will be carried throughout the building with large-scale photographs of Nelson Mandela gracing the hallways and entryway of this iconic building, enticing visitors to check out the show in its entirety. POPup will donate a portion of proceeds generated at this location to the Creative Arts Workshops for Kids (CAW).
